Hello and Happy New Year!
This weekend the second collection is Tornado victims in Kentucky. Please prayerfully consider what you can do to support those who are suffering such terrible losses.
PSR scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled. We plan to resume as scheduled in February. Also, for those who have children making their First Holy Communion this year--please mark your calendars for preparation classes on Saturday Feb 5th and Saturday March 5th from 10-noon. The date for First Holy Communion is May 8th.
Super Bowl Hoagies will be back! Please watch for order forms to reserve your Hoagies. If you can help prepare Hoagies beginning at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 12th we would appreciate it. Contact Cathy 330-874-4716 if you can help. All proceeds go to support our Schools.
A Reminder that Holy Trinity is still supporting TV Schools Backpack program with cans of ravioli. Help feed our kids in need on the weekends when they are not receiving school lunches. Ravioli can be placed in box in the hallway.
What do the Knights of Columbus Do?
Most everyone in the parish knows of the presence of the Knights of Columbus but do they know what the K of C does year after year? Well, as it turns out, they do quite a lot.
The most visible things the Knights do are the annual Fish Fry’s and the Brat sales in Zoar, which are actually a parish activity with the Knights setting everything up, ordering the food, coordinating volunteers, etc.. However, there are activities that are not so visible, such as preparing and serving meals for distribution by the Salvation Army each month, setting up for bereavement lunches, Welcoming Dinners/Breakfasts, organizing Family Rosary Sundays, building maintenance/cleanup. All these have a cost to them.
Over the past year the Knights have spent $2192.00 for the Salvations Army lunches, donating $4527.00 to the parish in support of activities and donating $3000.00 to St Vincent de Paul. In addition to monetary donations, Knights have donated their time to the tune of over 1500 hours for all the above activities and then some.
One of the mottos of the Knights is “In Solidarity with Our Priests”. That means that if Father or the Deacon asks for help, the Knights respond with “Yes”. Very, very rarely, if ever, is the response “No”.
Holy Trinity Council 13081 has a membership of 45, with about 25 who are active. The average age of the members is 68. The council is always looking for new members and any Catholic gentleman 18 years old and above may join the Order. Joining is as easy as going to www.kofc.org, clicking the “Join” button and following the instructions, noting Council # 13081. The Exemplification is done virtually and takes about 35 minutes. Families are invited to participate along with the candidate, as the Knights of Columbus is a family-oriented society.
So now you know what it is that the K of C does in/for the parish. So, the next time you see a parish event taking place, express your thanks to the Knights who are working diligently to make that event a rousing success.
